School Art Galleries
It is great to be able to
display children's art on the web. Until recently most of children's art was
displayed on the classroom wall or stuffed into a drawer once taken home or
worse thrown away. This is real opportunity for children to create a lasting
display of their work for the wider audience.
Use small file sizes
You can scan the
art work in or use a digital camera.
Remember to keep your file size to around 20K or use thumb nails which can be
expanded to a larger size. Don't keep surfers waiting! There is nothing worse
than huge graphics on the web which no one will wait for. You can download a free program called
20/20 to re-size graphics and create thumbnails. You can download 20/20 from: www.hotfreeware.com
Give some background
Remember too to
add a little of the background to the picture. Include a title if possible, may
be the topic you were doing and links to the curriculum. This will give parents
and other surfers a greater insight into where the work fits in. You could also
give details of the medium the children used such as water colour, pastel etc
Give graphics a title
Giving graphics a
title will help the visually impaired who use text-to-speech tools. Always
remember to use the "ALT" tag which will give a text description of
the graphic.
